BANGUI, Central African Republic - French forces in troubled Central African Republic say they came under attack in a neighborhood of the capital but that the area has now been secured. French forces are stepping up their presence on the streets of Bangui. France has long had several hundred soldiers in its former colony but now has more than 1,000. The long chaotic country tumbled into further troubles last week when Christian armed fighters who oppose the Muslim ex-rebels now in charge of Central African Republic launched an assault on the capital.
