Are Europeans Giving Up on Europe?

Countries like Italy and Spain are turning away from the world, with grave consequences for the European project. In the course of my travels, I also felt more than ever before that Europeans have fallen out of love with Europe-or, more precisely, with the idea of building a Europe-wide union. The region's economic crisis, with its uncertain future and legacy of massive unemployment, has deepened disappointment and disinterest in the European Union. Europe needs to once again seduce the millions of Europeans who no longer believe that the project of building a more united continent will directly benefit them and their families.
